Retirement Ceremonies

A Retirement Ceremony is simply a timely recognition of an important milestone in our journey through life. Very often, a person’s achievements and fulfilments are duly recognized at their funeral. Wouldn't it be far more appropriate to do so at the time of one’s retirement from active employment?
A Retirement Ceremony need not be on the scale of a wedding or funeral, but it would be a very proper occasion to call together close friends, family members and some long-standing colleagues from recent workplace environments.
A short tribute to highlight the memorable moments, comical occurrences and notable achievements could be made in a manner similar to a eulogy but in a much more convivial atmosphere.
A token presentation of a larger than normal business card clearly stating the recipient’s duties as an R & R. Researcher (or something similar) could be framed or presented as a plaque. Alternatively, the retiree may be presented with a genuine Senior’s Card and sun hat! There are numerous ways of representing this new chapter in a person’s life.
Then some current or former colleagues might get up and relate a few short anecdotes recalling humorous or even moving stories from the retiree’s work life.
The ceremony may be closed with a brief prayer if desired, asking for God’s blessing and safe-keeping of the couple as they enter an entirely different phase of their life.
Then on with the party!!
