Sand Ceremony

Sand CeremonyThe Sand Ceremony is representative of connection and unity, both of those getting married, as well as their loved ones. This is a particularly poignant ceremony when one or both partners have children.

Thought to be originally a Hawaiian or Native American custom, the bride and groom used to simply throw some sand into the wind together, an acknowledgement of the fact that once two things have been joined, like grains of sand in the breeze, they are at once intertwined and can never be returned to their original state of separateness.

Modern sand ceremonies involve tipping different coloured sand into the one vessel.

Whether you use only two different types of sand for yourselves, or you involve your children, the different coloured sand, once poured into the single vessel, creates a beautiful piece of art that you can display in your home.

As well as being a beautiful decoration, the vessel serves as a reminder that, although everyone within the union is an individual, as with the individual layers of colours in the vase or bottle, the family is now a much a part of the individuals as they are part of the family. Similarly, it would be virtually impossible to extract only one colour from the vase.

The ceremony can be tailored to your specific circumstances and what you wish to express on the day, but there are basic steps that serve as a guide for creating a gorgeous, meaningful memento of your wedding day.

Rose Ceremony

Red rosesThe Rose Ceremony is simple yet profoundly moving. The couple exchange two red roses, symbolizing the giving and receiving of their love for each other throughout their entire married life.

As with all ceremonies, there is great flexibility in how you share this moment together, but there are also steps to follow to make it easier.

The roses are your gifts to each other, which you generally exchange near the end of the wedding ceremony. They represent your love without words needing to be spoken and it is that symbolism that they can provide you with throughout your entire marriage.

When you take your roses home, you find somewhere to put them that you both acknowledge as a special place within your house.

At any time during your life together, one or both of you may choose to place a rose in this same place in order to remind your partner of your love - the love celebrated and strengthened on your wedding day when the first roses were first exchanged. No words need to be spoken, but it can be anything from a kind remembrance on any given day, to a powerful gesture amidst even the most challenging of circumstances.

MarriedWelcome to my website. If you are looking for a celebrant on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, you are exactly where you need to be and I can't wait to meet you!

Whether you are looking for a celebrant for a wedding or an alternative commitment ceremony, a naming ceremony for a new addition to the family or simply to mark any other significant occasion in your lives, I would be honoured to help you to create something that will be both moving and memorable for you and for all of your guests.

I have lived on the Mornington Peninsula for many years and am familiar with what seems to be all of the venues across the region, although I'm always delighted to be surprised by another one!

In my role as a civil celebrant, I cater to all people's beliefs, ensuring that their ceremony harmoniously reflects who they are and what is important to them. In particular, as a practising Christian myself, I can introduce prayers and blessings into a ceremony - only if desired, of course. In this way, I can also provide a Christian experience to those who, for one reason or another, are not able to have a formal church ceremony.
